Growth Factor Concentrate (GFC)

GFC Treatment in Delhi, India

In today’s time, Hair loss or Alopecia is one of the most common cosmetic concerns across the globe. It can affect anyone due to different reasons including ageing, genetics, autoimmune conditions, hormonal imbalance, side effects of certain treatments like chemotherapy and others.

Hair loss can significantly lower one’s self-esteem and confidence and sometimes cause anxiety and depression. Therefore, instant action is needed to stop extensive hair fall and restore the lost hair. The good news is that now it’s possible to restore lost hair quickly with natural growth factors, without any surgery i.e. with Growth Factor Concentrate Therapy in Gurgaon performed at SB Aesthetics by Dr. Shilpi Bhadani.

What is Growth Factor Concentrate Therapy?

Growth Factor Concentrate (GFC) therapy is a highly dedicated, safe, and concentrated preparation of natural growth factors, derived from the candidate’s blood pla-tel-ets, to offer high-grade, natural results. The therapy involves injecting prepared growth factor concentrate into the areas of hair loss to restore damaged hair follicles and stimulate natural hair growth. It is an advanced, recently shown-up solution for hair loss in both men and women.

What Growth Factors are Used in Growth Factor Concentrate Therapy for hair loss?

There are various growth factors released by the blood plat-ele-ts. Their role is to help repair and regenerate damaged tissues and allow s-te-m cells to proliferate, migrate, and differentiate into new cell types. They activate and stimulate the multiplication of fibroblasts- the collagen-producing cells and thus improve overall scalp health and condition. Each growth factor that is used for hair loss treatment has different functions. A GFC therapy kit for hair loss has four natural growth factors stored in high concentration with precise mechanisms. These are:

Pla-te-let-derived Growth Factor (PDGF)- It acts as a stimulator for vascularisation and angiogenesis in the areas of hair loss and thereby increases hair growth. It even helps in the mitogenesis of endothelial cells and mesenchymal s-te-m cells as well as chemotaxis and proliferation of fibroblasts.

Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF)- This growth factor is expressed in the dermal papilla in the growing hair and regulates perifollicular angiogenesis in hair. It even increases perifollicular vessel size when the hair is anagen phase to ensure smooth growth of hair.

Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF)- It encourages the proliferation and regeneration of hair cells and stimulates the mitogenesis of epithelial and mesenchymal cells. Moreover, this growth factor even promotes angiogenesis.

In-su-lin-like Growth Factor-1 (IGF-1)- This growth factor works as an angiogenesis stimulator. It helps maintain the growth of hair follicles and increases overall hair growth.

The treatment is safe as the patient's own growth factors are used and purified before injecting into the scalp. To learn more on the cost of growth factor hair loss treatment in Gurgaon do consult Dr. Shilpi Bhadani at her clinic.

Before GFC treatment

Prior to the GFC treatment, the patient must:

  • Avoid taking blood thinners and narc-otic drugs for 48-72 hours.
  • Check with their doctor for any need for blood tests.
  • Arrive at the clinic with a clean and dry scalp.

What happens during Growth Factor Concentrate Therapy?

The procedure of GFC therapy for hair loss involves the following steps:

  • Collection of patient’s blood- The doctor draws 15-16mL of the patient’s peripheral blood, using a sterile syringe, preferably from their left arm. The collected blood is then equally transferred in 4 GFC tubes.
  • Plat-elet’s Activation- In this step, the doctor inverts the GFC tubes 6-10 times to gently mix the blood and then leave them undisturbed for approximately 30 minutes. The GFC tubes have Wockhardt proprietary pla-te-let activating solution that activates the pla-te-let to release the growth factors.
  • Separation of GFC- Next, the four GFC tubes are centrifuged at 3,400 rpm for 10 minutes. At the end of this step, the pure growth factors are separated from RBCs, WBCs, and other blood cells. The colour of the GFC can range from yellow to yellowish-brown- orange to reddish.
  • Collection of GFC- Then, the GFCs are collected with the help of a syringe from the top of the tube, just under the caps of the tubes. This allows for maximum recovery of GFC.
  • Application of GFC- The GFC taken in a syringe is finally applied to the sites of hair loss.
  • The overall procedure takes about 1-2 hours, depending upon the areas being treated. Some patients may ask to numb their treatment site with a topical anaesthetic before the application of GFC. To get the desired outcome, the patients are usually recommended to go for three sittings of the treatment in three months. If required, one sitting can be re-scheduled before 4-6 months of the procedure, and every year, the entire therapy can be repeated.

Results and Aftercare

GFC therapy results in considerably reduced hair fall, rejuvenation of hair follicles, and thicker and voluminous hair. It even leads to healthy and stronger hair regrowth.

Following the treatment, the patients must follow the doctor’s post-treatment instructions. These include:

  • Do not wash hair for 8 hours and avoid the use of shampoo afterward for the first 1-2 days.
  • Avoid combing, colouring, and perming hair for the initial 3 days.
  • Avoid exposing the scalp to direct sun.
  • Do not smoke and avoid alcohol and caffeine intake for 3 days post-treatment.
  • Drink enough water for the first week.
  • Do not perform any activities that heat the scalp or cause sweating for at least a week.
